New Delhi, March 19 -- The Opposition on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in the Lok Sabha, calling it a "damage control exercise" as they accused him of failing to acknowledge the devotees who lost their lives during the recently concluded Maha Kumbh.

While Modi hailed the Maha Kumbh as a symbol of "national consciousness and unity", Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi questioned why the Prime Minister failed to pay tribute to deceased devotees. "We support what the PM said, Kumbh is our history and culture," he said. "Our only complaint is that the PM did not give shraddhanjali (tributes) to those who lost their lives in Kumbh."
