'CISF presence at Nangal unnecessary'
Sangrur, May 23 -- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday objected to the Centre's decision of deploying a contingent of 296 CISF personnel to secure the Nangal Dam, citing the presence of Punjab Police at the site.
Calling the deployment "unnecessary" and a "financial burden" for the state, the CM said he will raise the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting of the Niti Aayog scheduled for Saturday.
Addressing the media in Sangrur, Mann said the deployment of CISF personnel will cost Rs.8.58 crore per annum, showing a copy of the Centre's letter in this regard.
