PANJIM, June 3 -- The Dona Paula area on Tuesday witnessed frequent power failures as a result of heavy rains accompanied by gusty wind and failure of insulator.

Residents around Machado's Cove complained about frequent power shut downs since morning, which continued till 5 pm in the evening. The power fluctuations began in the morning around 8.30 am and continued thereafter.

When contacted, the State Electricity Department confirmed that heavy rains and wind led to frequent power cuts in the area. It, however, maintained, that the fluctuations were in the range of one to 10 minutes maximum.

The department said the insulator failure was reported at around 4.55 pm and the same was restored by 4.59 pm.
