Brief Summary: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common gastrointestinal disease. It is a chronic condition that is characterized by the regurgitation of stomach contents into the esophagus and is associated with heartburn. The occurrence of these symptoms for at least two weeks increases the likelihood of having GERD. Other GERD symptoms include chest pain, nausea, dysphagia, burping, water brash, and vomiting.
