Brief Summary: The incidence of liver cirrhosis is increased fivefold for men and tripled for women in the last forty years.

The clinical course of liver cirrhosis includes complications of ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, variceal bleeding, kidney dysfunction, and infections that markedly worsen prognosis.
