MONROVIA, Feb. 7 -- The Liberian Senate has passed legislation to establish a new Ministry of Local Government, effectively repealing Chapter 25 of the 1972 Executive Law, which previously created the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This move marks a significant shift in the country's governance structure, with the new law aimed at strengthening local government operations and enhancing decentralization.
The Senate's decision came after a report from the Joint Committee on Internal Affairs, Governance & Reconciliation, and Judiciary Human Rights, Claims & Petitions, which recommended the establishment of the new ministry. Upon enactment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be rebranded as the Ministry of Local Government.
