Monrovia, May 20 -- Liberia's Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute have expressed concern over a rapid increase in mpox cases in neighboring Sierra Leone. The country has reported a total of 2,634 confirmed mpox cases and 14 deaths, marking a significant increase since the country's first cases were identified in January.

The outbreak has intensified in recent weeks, with the country averaging 100 new cases a day. Sierra Leone accounted for 58% of all confirmed mpox cases in Africa during a recent week.
