Monrovia, May 12 -- Scores of passengers are being left stranded in Kakata as commercial drivers stage a protest against what they describe as exorbitant traffic ticket prices being imposed by highway police along the Redlight-Kakata Highway.
The demonstration, which began early Monday morning, has disrupted travel to Monrovia, leaving students, marketers, and workers unable to reach their destinations.
"I came to get a car to go to Monrovia for my exams, but I can't find one. This is affecting us this morning," said Joe Wilson, a student caught in the disruption.
Wilson and other commuters are calling on the Government of Liberia to investigate the claims and ensure that fair and standardized traffic ticketing is enforced.
