Monrovia, July 22 -- President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has postponed the commissioning ceremony of newly confirmed Chief Justice Yamie Gbeisay, amid growing legal concerns and fears of a looming constitutional standoff within the judiciary.

The ceremony was initially scheduled for Friday last week, following Justice Gbeisay's confirmation by the Liberian Senate. However, sources within the Executive Mansion told FrontPage Africa that the President was advised to delay the commissioning due to conflicting legal opinions on the matter.

At the heart of the debate is whether Justice Gbeisay can be officially commissioned while outgoing Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh remains in office, concluding judicial matters from the March Term of Court. Ch...
