Monrovia, Feb. 7 -- Liberia's Ambassador to the United Nations, Lewis Brown, has called on all Liberians to unite in support of the country's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.

Speaking on the importance of this opportunity, Brown emphasized that Liberia's successful election would mark a significant moment in the country's history, as it would be the first time Liberia serves a full two-year term since its single stint on the Security Council in 1961.

The UN Security Council, responsible for maintaining international peace and security, consists of 15 member states.

Five are permanent members with veto power, while the remaining ten rotate in two-year terms.
