India, June 17 -- At the recently concluded ProPak Asia 2025, which took place from June 11 to 14 in Bangkok, Spain-based Mespack showcased its latest packaging technologies and reaffirmed its strategic commitment to Southeast Asia. In an exclusive interview during the event, Guillem Clofent, Managing Director of Mespack, shared insights into the company's expanding product portfolio, market strategy, and customer-focused innovations.
A global leader with local focus
"Mespack is a leading company that supplies high-end equipment for flexible packaging and end-of-line applications," Clofent began. "This includes doypacks, sachets, stick packs, and water-soluble pods - widely used for products like laundry detergents. But more than that, we provide complete turnkey solutions."
He elaborated on Mespack's value proposition: "Our goal is to simplify the packaging process for our customers. Instead of having to coordinate between multiple vendors, they can count on Mespack to deliver a complete system - from pouch creation to cartoning and palletizing. We take full responsibility, which reduces complexity and enhances efficiency."
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Barcelona, Mespack has expanded its global footprint with manufacturing in Chicago and Vadodara, India, and offices in Mumbai and Delhi. "India is a key market for us," Clofent emphasized. "Our Vadodara facility offers local manufacturing, spare parts, and technical support, not just for India but for the wider region."
Innovations on display at ProPak Asia 2025
At this year's exhibition, Mespack's booth attracted significant attention with its turnkey stick pack and cartoner solution for the pharmaceutical industry. According to Clofent, this compact system offers "high technology and high output," customized for clients seeking efficiency and precision.
One of the standout features was Hello Mespack, a remote service system integrated into an industrial tablet installed on every machine. "It connects directly to our support team. Operators just click a button and get real-time help via chat, video, or document sharing," Clofent explained. "We also offer secure, remote machine access with cybersecurity features - this is not just an app, it's part of our broader service strategy."
Mespack also showcased its entire portfolio, featuring Horizontal and Vertical Form Fill Seal (HFFS & VFFS) machines, water-soluble pod lines, and end-of-line solutions.
Adapting to trends: Sustainability and Digitalization
When asked about trends in the food and beverage industry, Clofent emphasized sustainability and digitalization as key priorities.
"Sustainability continues to be a major trend - and it's only growing stronger," he said. Mespack has invested in modifying both new and existing machines to handle mono-material films, which are more environmentally friendly yet technically challenging.
"In collaboration with partners like WATTTRON and Herrmann Ultrasonics, we have developed sealing technologies that ensure perfect seals with zero leakage using these materials," Clofent noted.
Digital transformation is another major focus. "We launched our own hardware-agnostic MESPACK ATHENA controls platform about five years ago," he said. This digital platform enhances machine capabilities through improved human-machine interfaces (HMI), IoT integration, and upcoming AI-driven algorithms to further optimize performance.
Flexible packaging on the rise
Clofent sees strong momentum for flexible packaging as brands move away from traditional rigid formats. "Jars, bottles, and tubs are expensive, less sustainable, and have higher logistics costs. Flexible packaging - formed in-line - significantly reduces costs," he explained. "It also offers better branding opportunities, improving shelf appeal and consumer engagement."
Southeast Asia: A strategic growth engine
Mespack's commitment to Southeast Asia is evident. "We manage Southeast Asia and Oceania from Thailand, where we have our hub team - including sales and service technicians," Clofent said. "This region is very robust and promising. The population is growing, incomes are rising, and there's a strong demand for convenient, on-the-go packaging."
Mespack is increasing its investment in the region, expanding both its team and infrastructure. "Southeast Asia is strategically very important to us," he affirmed.
A successful ProPak Asia edition
Reflecting on this year's edition of ProPak Asia, Clofent expressed enthusiasm. "This year has been a great success. We have seen a significant increase in booth traffic and qualified leads - not just from existing clients but from new players entering the market," he said.
"These companies are looking for more sophisticated technologies - and that's where Mespack becomes a strong, reliable partner."
What's Next: Innovations on the horizon
Mespack continues to invest in R&D, with several new innovations in the pipeline. "We are introducing our new continuous motion sachet machine, which can reach up to 150 sachets per minute - more than double the speed of conventional systems. It will debut at Pack Expo later this year," Clofent revealed.
He also hinted at the upcoming 'autopilot' system, expected to launch around late 2025 or early 2026, in time for Interpack in Dusseldorf.
Commitment to customers
Closing the interview, Clofent conveyed a clear message to prospective clients, "We are fully committed to our customers' success. From high-performance, low-consumption, small-footprint machines to outstanding lifecycle services - we provide reliable, long-lasting solutions."
Partnering with Mespack means establishing a strong, long-term relationship. We believe everything happens at the customer's site, and that's where we want to make a difference.
