Kathmandu, Feb. 22 -- Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar has said the completion of Melamchi Water Supply Project was delayed due to the sheer negligence of the Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna. She said the project hit a snag at the final stage despite relatively better performance during her tenure.

"The construction of tunnel and gate were in the last phase. We were planning to supply the drinking water to Kathmandu Valley residents, but the project became uncertain. There are growing concerns and worries after the Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna left the project," said Magar said.

She said she has taken initiatives to resolve the problem at the earliest.
