India, April 8 -- More than 83,000 deaths worldwide

United States now has 400,549 cases that have tested positive to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), according to aggregator Worldometer. The country has recorded 12,857 deaths in ensuing diseases (COVID-19).

* Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a press conference, said several opposition parties discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

* He hinted that the PM is yet to decide on whether to extend the lockdown or not. Several states and most political parties have favoured continuing the lockdown.
