Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- Former Chief Justice and President Counsel Dr. Mohan Peiris has been recommended for the position of a permanent representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York after the position fell vacant following the retirement of Shenuka Seneviratne.

Foreign Ministry sources confirmed that Dr.Peiris name has been referred to the Parliament Committee on High Posts for their recommendation and approval. The Committee may interview and may await any objections to this recommendation, following the publication of his credentials in the newspapers.
