Sri Lanka, April 8 -- Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said in Parliament today that once the Sinopharm vaccine is approved by the WHO it will be used on Sri Lankans with the approval of the Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).Minister Wanniarachchi said this in response to a question raised by the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa seeking an oral answer.The Minister further stated that the National Drug Regulatory Authority and the Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee will decide on the safety of this vaccine after studying the relevant data."The vaccine will not be used on the public until its safety is assured," she said.
