Sri Lanka, June 3 -- A local woman, who is a resident of Andiambalama, returning from Dubai was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Customs at the airport for smuggling foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 4.1 million into the country.
The Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport Arrival Terminal searched the female passenger on suspicion when she was carrying a consignment of cigarettes through the 'green channel' this morning.
The 55-year-old passenger had arrived in the country on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 226 having 27,400 sticks of cigarettes in 137 cartons carefully concealed in her baggages.
The suspect was imposed a fine and the illicit goods were forfeited by the Customs.
