Srilanka, March 18 -- A woman who was asleep in her home was pinned under the debris of the walls pulled down by a rogue elephant that had entered her home garden in the early hours of last morning. She was rushed to hospital but died on admission.
The victim, Mary Margret Perera (64) was a resident of Habarana road, in Minneriiya and a mother of two children.
Police said the injured woman had died on admission to the Hingurakgoda Base Hospital.
Residents of the area said a herd of wild elephants often roam into the village and that one of them had attempted to enter the house and eat the paddy stored inside.
They said they drove away the. wild elephant with great difficulty.
Minneriya police are conducting further investigations....
