Sri Lanka, June 24 -- A woman was arrested by Hambantota Police yesterday morning after attempting to pay a court fine using counterfeit currency notes at the Hambantota Magistrate's Court.
The 28-year-old suspect, a resident of Beragama, Ambalantota, had presented a Rs. 5,000 counterfeit note along with other notes while settling a fine of Rs. 8,000.
The incident came to light when the court cashier identified the fake currency and immediately alerted the police officers on duty at the court premises.
The woman was taken into custody and handed over to Hambantota Police for further investigations.
