Sri Lanka, Jan. 5 -- In the wake of the burning an elephant to death in Mihintale, the death of another wild elephant as a result of the human-elephant conflict was reported yesterday from Welikanda.
Wildlife officials said the well-built animal had been electrocuted when it entered a cultivated land. The wire used for the electrocution had been found near the carcass.
Range Wildlife Asst.Saman Nishantha said the well grown jumbo was between 25 and 30 years of age and that the individuals who laid the live wire that caused its death were yet to be identified.
Veterinary Surgeon from the Giritale Wildlife Unit Dr.Samira Kalinguarachchi was scheduled to perform the postmortem examination yesterday.
