Sri Lanka, Jan. 15 -- The Welisara Magistrate's Court has fined three traders in the Gampaha district a total of Rs. 300,000 for selling rice above the government's maximum retail price, after they pleaded guilty to the charges filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA). The ruling was delivered yesterday (14).

According to the CAA, the violations occurred at the following locations:

Ekala, Ja-Ela: A shop sold Keeri Samba rice above Rs. 308 per kilo. Fine: Rs. 100,000.

Ja-Ela Public Market: Samba rice was sold above Rs. 275 per kilo. Fine: Rs. 100,000.

Church Road, Kandana: Keeri Samba rice was sold at Rs. 280 per kilo, exceeding the controlled price. Fine: Rs. 100,000.
