Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- In the aftermath of the devastating floods, while many organisations rushed to assist affected communities, one group turned its attention to often-overlooked victims - street dogs.
According to WECare Worldwide, a total of 19,919 dogs have been vaccinated against rabies in recent weeks. In addition, 10,134 sick and injured animals have received treatment, while 10,689 animals have been neutered.
WECare Worldwide's Alex Ciepielewska said the organisation mobilised urgently to provide emergency veterinary care to surviving animals and to prevent the spread of deadly diseases such as leptospirosis, distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis and rabies.
