Colombo, April 8 -- Former Minister S. Viyalendran, who was released on bail in connection with a bribery incident, has been taken back into remand custody after failing to fulfill the conditions of his bail.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali today (April 8) ordered the release of the former Minister on bail. However, due to his inability to meet the full bail conditions, he will remain in remand custody.

Viyalendran was initially arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting in a bribery incident, where he allegedly supported the acceptance of a Rs. 1.5 million bribe from a businessman in relation to the issuing of a sand mining permit.
