Srilanka, July 23 -- The Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and the Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation have formally requested an investigation from Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, into the deaths of four wild elephants in the Digampathana and Galgamuwa areas near Sigiriya.
Officials warn that elephant attacks by poachers, illegal gun owners, and farmers have become a widespread and almost daily threat across Sri Lanka's wildlife zones.
