Colombo, April 5 -- The leaders of political parties representing the upcountry Tamil community met with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this evening.

Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) President Senthil Thondaman, its General Secretary MP Jeewan Thondaman and leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) MPs Mano Ganesan, Palani Digambaram and V. Radhakrishnan attended the meeting.

Senthil Thondaman told the Daily Mirror that he requested the Indian government to support the introduction of a health insurance scheme for the plantation community through their Life Insurance Company.

He said there is a life insurance of INR 500,000 in India and it is better to have the same here for the people.
