Sri Lanka, June 12 -- Train services on the Upcountry Line, which were disrupted on Tuesday due to the sudden appearance of a sinkhole between Peradeniya and Kandy, have been fully restored following overnight repair work, the Railways Department said.
According to officials, continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days in the Kandy area caused a section of the railway line between the Kandy and Peradeniya stations to subside, halting train services on the busy Upcountry route.
Railways Department crews worked through the night to repair the affected section and resume operations. Following the successful restoration, the first train from Colombo Fort to Badulla safely arrived at Kandy Railway Station at 5:55 a.m. today.
