Sri Lanka, Dec. 31 -- Five members of the Galle Municipal Council were arrested after unrest disrupted a council session yesterday (30), police said.

The suspects, including a female councillor, were taken into custody after statements were recorded over the disturbance during proceedings.

They are accused of obstructing the duties of the council Secretary and other officials.

The arrested councillors represent the United National Party (UNP), the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), and are due to be produced before the Galle Magistrate's Court today (31).
