Sri Lanka, June 27 -- Two National People's Power (NPP) members of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, who were on their way for the council meeting to elect the Chairman, have been abducted, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) media unit said.

The media unit said a tense situation has arisen at the council meeting where a decision has been taken to resume the council meeting only if the two abducted NPP members are brought back.

It was scheduled to hold the vote to elect the Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha today.
