Sri Lanka, July 9 -- Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake today apologised to passengers inconvenienced by the failure to operate the Mount Lavinia-Jaffna Intercity Express train daily as scheduled from today.

The apology came in response to a direct complaint made to the Minister via social media platform X by a commuter, who reported that the Jaffna Intercity had failed to depart from Mount Lavinia as announced. The train was instead rescheduled to start from Colombo Fort without prior notice and did not stop at Wellawatte, leaving several passengers stranded as early as 5:00 a.m. The commuter also pointed out that the ticket fare stood at Rs. 3,600.
