Sri Lanka, March 3 -- In a bid to reduce elephant-train collisions, Sri Lanka Railways has introduced revised train schedules and new speed limits for night operations in areas where elephant crossings are frequent.
The changes will take effect from March 7, 2025.
The adjustments primarily affect routes between Colombo Fort, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee, with revised departure and arrival times to ensure safer travel for both passengers and wildlife.
Revised train schedules
Colombo Fort - Batticaloa Route
Train 6011 (Udaya Devi) - Departs Colombo Fort at 6:05 AM, arrives in Batticaloa at 2:49 PM.
Train 6075 (Pulathisi) - Departs Colombo Fort at 3:15 PM, arrives in Batticaloa at 12:03 AM.
