Sri Lanka, Nov. 19 -- The Thumpane Pradeshiya Sabha has requested an investigation following reports of the violent detention of a group of monkeys at its premises in Kandy.
A video of the incident circulating on social media has raised concerns and reportedly tarnished the reputation of the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Chaminda Dedumpitiya.
Speaking to the media, Dedumpitiya said that since reports suggest the monkeys were detained in cages on his instructions, he has informed the Galagedara Police to launch a formal investigation.
He added that the inquiry is essential to address the allegations and prevent further damage to the reputation of the Thumpane Pradeshiya Sabha.
