Sri Lanka, Dec. 18 -- The Disaster Management Center have issued warnings for drivers travelling on the Kandy-Mahiyanganaya road due to the risk of landslides following heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas of Ududumbara and Hunnasgiriya.
The DMC said that the road from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure is particularly vulnerable, with only one lane open after a recent landslide. Kandy District Assistant Director Indika Ranaweera urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving.
Earlier today, an earthen mound collapsed, burying three people. Local residents rescued the victims, with two admitted to Ududumbara Hospital and one to Kandy National Hospital.
