Sri Lanka, June 10 -- Three police officers, including the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Beruwala Police Crimes Branch, were injured and admitted to the Nagoda Hospital following an attack by a group in the Beruwala area.

Police said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The clash reportedly began after an argument between police officers and a group of individuals who were putting up flags near the Beruwala Fisheries Harbour.

Police had instructed the group, who were in a lorry, not to obstruct the road. An argument ensued, which escalated into violence.

The group allegedly attacked the officers, prompting police to fire shots into the air to bring the situation under control.
