Srilanka, May 2 -- Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has reportedly requested security protection from the police, citing threats to his life.
According to reports, Tennakoon has submitted a written request to Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya on Thursday, following information regarding a death threat allegedly issued by underworld figure Kanjipani Imran. Imran is said to have threatened to kill Tennakoon, who is currently suspended from his position.
Tennakoon's request comes amid claims that his personal security detail has been withdrawn after he evaded arrest for two weeks in the shooting incident case.
