Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- The Emergency Raid Unit of the Department of Wildlife Conservation carried out a raid in the Yakkala area of Gampaha, resulting in the arrest of a suspect found in possession of six illegally imported turtles.
According to wildlife officials, the suspect had two Snapping turtles, two Red-eared sliders, and two Indian black turtles, which had been brought into the country for commercial purposes.
The suspect and the seized turtles were produced before the Gampaha Magistrate's Court, where the Magistrate released the suspect on personal bail of Rs. 500,000. The court also ordered that the turtles be handed over to the Department of National Zoological Gardens for examination and reporting.
