Sri Lanka, June 18 -- A Fundamental Rights petition filed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), seeking the Supreme Court's intervention to prevent ragging in Sri Lanka's universities, was today fixed for support by the Supreme Court.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Janak de Silva and Kumudini Wickramasinghe, fixed the matter for support on July 18.

The BASL filed this petition through its President, Rajeev Amarasuriya and Secretary, Chathura Galhena, in the wake of the tragic ragging incident and subsequent suicide of 23-year-old Charith Dilshan Dayananda, a second-year student at the Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
