Sri Lanka, Feb. 28 -- The Supreme Court has directed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to pay annual interest on security deposits collected from consumers when providing electricity connections.
A three-judge bench, including Justices S. Thurai Raja and Sobitha Raja Karuna, ruled that an 11.67% annual interest, as stated in a CEB motion on January 30, 2024, must be paid to both domestic and other electricity consumers.
The order was issued during the hearing of a Fundamental Rights Petition filed by the Electricity and Renewable Energy Consumers Association, its President Mahesha Bandara Ilangasinghe, and Secretary Prasad Bhathiya Amarakon.
