Sri Lanka, Nov. 18 -- A Fundamental Rights petition filed by Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera seeking an order directing the Attorney General to initiate both criminal and civil proceedings against former State Minister Ajith Nivaard Cabral and several others for allegedly engaging in illegal financial transactions involving public funds, causing losses to the State, was dismissed by the Supreme Court.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Mahinda Samayawardhena and Justice Sampath Wijeratne dismissed the petition, holding that there was no legal basis to proceed with the matter.
