Sri Lanka, June 7 -- The islandwide strike launched by the Joint Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) concluded at 8:00 a.m. today, after four out of its five affiliated unions decided to end the industrial action.
JCPSM General Secretary Chanaka Dharmawickrama said the decision was taken in light of the inconvenience caused to patients due to the strike which began on June 5.
However, he confirmed that medical laboratory professionals will continue their strike.
The protest was initiated over several unresolved issues, including delays in promotions, the non-payment of weekend and holiday allowances, insufficient recruitment of graduates and disparities in salaries and allowances.
