Sri Lanka, April 14 -- At the auspicious time of 6:44 AM on Monday, April 14, people will begin the traditional New Year customs of starting work, engaging in transactions, and sharing the first meal.
Dressed in white and pearl-colored clothing and facing south, individuals perform a symbolic act of work to mark a productive and prosperous year ahead. Family members then exchange money as a gesture of goodwill and prosperity.
This time also marks the formal sharing of the first meal, reinforcing unity and hope for success, happiness, and abundance in the New Year.
