Srilanka, May 8 -- SriLankan Airlines' cargo division has become the first airline in South Asia to receive approval from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to transport lithium and sodium-ion batteries.

These batteries are widely used in mobile phones, laptops, portable electronic devices, remote controls, travel equipment, and toys.

As the global demand for these batteries continues to rise, this approval marks a significant achievement for Sri Lanka in the fields of science, technology, and aviation.

SriLankan Cargo was granted this approval following a rigorous assessment and audit process conducted by IATA.

Currently, SriLankan Cargo operates flights to 30 direct destinations in 21 countries each week.
