Sri Lanka, June 20 -- Sri Lanka has sought India's assistance in the evacuation of its citizens in Iran which is now engaged in a war with Israel, the Daily Mirror learns.

The Indian External Affairs Ministry, upon request by the Sri Lanka Foreign Affairs Ministry, has now offered assistance to evacuate Sri Lankan students from Iran under India's Operation Sindhu.

The Indian Embassy in Iran evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, assisted them in safely crossing over into Armenia on 17 June 2025. The students were then taken to the Armenian capital, Yerevan from where a special flight brought them back to New Delhi in the early hours of June 19.
