Colombo, April 21 -- The prevailing intermittent rainy weather conditions are contributing to the spread of viral infections among the people, Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors' Association Chairman Upul Rohana said.
Addressing the media, he said that the mosquito population has increased due to the frequent rains. Cases of Chikungunya are being reported, and there is a noticeable rise in dengue infections in certain areas, he said.
He further said that the prevailing hot weather conditions are not ideal for maintaining good health. Therefore, he urged the public to stay well-hydrated during periods of extreme heat and to regularly clean their surroundings to help prevent the spread of mosquitoes.
