New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a special project to accelerate investigations into complaints of missing and disappeared persons.

The initiative comes under the Office on Missing People, established under Act No. 14 of 2016, which is responsible for investigating cases and issuing reports to the families of the missing. Since its inception, the office has received 16,966 complaints, with 10,517 still pending investigation.
