Sri Lanka, July 29 -- Skygazers will be treated to a spectacular celestial display tonight as the Southern Delta Aquarii meteor shower reaches its peak, Astronomy and Engineering Lecturer Gihan Weerasekara said.

This annual meteor shower, one of the major ones visible from Earth, will be best seen in the eastern sky within the constellation Aquarius. The ideal time for viewing is around midnight, although meteors can be spotted from 9 p.m. onwards until the early hours of the morning.

Observers can expect to see between 15 to 20 meteors per hour under clear skies.

"This is a valuable opportunity, especially for children, to witness a natural event in space and develop a greater interest in astronomy," Weerasekara said.
