Colombo, March 4 -- A Parliamentary Committee has raised concerns that even some recipients of the Aswesuma benefits are addicted to drugs, emphasising the urgent need for intervention.

This was revealed during the inaugural meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment held at the Parliament Complex recently under the Chairmanship of Minister Upali Pannilage.

It highlighted the necessity of conducting more effective awareness programmes at school level to prevent being exposed to the use of drugs.
