Sri Lanka, March 5 -- In a significant step toward expanding renewable energy production, the government has set up plans to establish a 100 MW Solar Power Garden in the Uva province.

The energy project, spearheaded by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) will be developed on a 219.7233-hectare plot of land belonging to the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat of the Monaragala District.

The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved a proposal by Minister of Power and Energy, Kumara Jayakody to allocate land to the SLSEA, following inspections that confirmed that the land was not used for farming or any form of cultivation.
