Colombo, April 23 -- A total of 2,500 cyber related incidents have been reported so far this year, according to the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT).

SLCERT engineer Charuka Damunupola speaking to the Daily Mirror revealed that 164 cases reported were link to online frauds.

He said that 162 accounts were hacked along with 291 fake accounts which were identified.

Seven cases of children-related online sexual abuse too were reported, Damunupola said while warning that rising digital exposure highlights the necessity for swift action in promoting cyber security awareness.
