Sri Lanka, Nov. 21 -- Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa said that the party has suspended the membership of a local council candidate arrested in connection with a large narcotics seizure off the southern coast.
The SJB has suspended the individual's membership with immediate effect and will conduct a separate inquiry to determine further action, Premadasa said on social media platform X.
"The SJB as a party is vehemently opposed to the narco trade, which is a cancer to our society. We firmly believe in reformulating our laws to institute the highest punishment on those who engage in this illegal, reprehensible activity," Premadasa added.
