Colombo, Nov. 2 -- A theft has been reported at the ancient Sita Amman Kovil in Haggala, Nuwara Eliya, where six temple tills were broken into last night (01).
The temple's governing council lodged a complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Police, stating that three of the specially prepared money boxes were later found discarded in a nearby canal. It was also revealed that the data storage device of the temple's security camera system had been removed.
Police said the suspects had entered the temple while the night guard was asleep and made off with the money. Investigations are underway to identify and arrest the culprits.
