Sri Lanka, July 18 -- Six elephants cared for at the "Ath Athuru Sevana" (Elephant Transit Home) were released into the Udawalawe Maw-Ara Forest Reserve yesterday.

The release was carried out under the patronage of Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi.

These elephants had been under the care of the Elephant Transit Home for nearly five years after being orphaned at a young age.

Foreign organizations and zoological groups contributed to their care. This marks the 26th group of rehabilitated elephants released back into the wild by the Elephant Transit Home.
